      Requirements for Foreign Pharmacists

      Med IconGlobal Staffing Strategies, Inc. is also recruiting pharmacists. The following are requirements for foreign-trained pharmacists.

      1. Pass the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Spoken English (TSE). Passing results are good for 2 years. Information regarding the both exams is online at www.toefl.org.

      2. Graduate from an Accredited Pharmacy University outside of the USA.

      3. Pass the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and will be given the Foreign Graduate Equivalency Commission (FPGEC) certificate. Application and information is available at www.nabp.net.

      4. At this time, the pharmacist would apply for the H-1B Visa. This process normally takes 12 to 14 weeks. The H1-B is good for 3 years and is renewable.

      5. In the meanwhile, he/she may apply (for internship) with the state board in which he/she wants to work. Internship ranges from 400 hours to over 1500 hours (some states allow part-time, however most require full time). These hours must be done in America in the state in which they want to work, with a few exceptions.

      6. Upon completion of internship hours, the pharmacist can make application to take the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) if required. Approval to sit for the boards can take 3-7 weeks.

      7. The pharmacist takes the NAPLEX and MPJE. Most states offer reciprosity (some don't honor Florida or California). Results are available in 4-8 weeks depending upon the state.
